Welcome to CISV New York’s membership page! Here we answer your most pressing questions regarding a CISV New York membership.
Why does CISV New York charge membership fees?
To maintain its good standing within our parent organizations, CISV USA and CISV International, CISV New York must fully fund an international summer camp on a yearly basis. We raise funds through program fees, membership fees, and fundraising efforts. Membership fees from past and current CISV participants and families are essential to keep our chapter up and running.
What are the different kinds of membership that CISV New York offers?
CISV New York offers four levels of membership. Membership fees should be paid yearly. Here are the four levels:
Single: A “Single” membership is for individuals who are 21 years old or older without children participating in any CISV programs. Perhaps you are a delegation leader, adult chaperone, a past program participant who is now an adult, or just someone who wants to support CISV — then this membership type is for you.
Family: A “Family” membership is for families who have children participating in CISV programs, like local activities, events, minicamps, and summer camp. A family is required to hold a CISV membership so that their child(ren) can attend overnight programs. A “Family” level membership or above (e.g. “Patron” or “Gold”) meets the requirement.
Patron: If your financial situation allows you to contribute with a bit more than the “Family” membership level, then please consider becoming a “Patron”. At this level, you help ensure that CISV New York thrives as a chapter, funds an international camp every summer, and widens program access to families who would not be able to pay CISV fees otherwise.
Gold: If you can contribute at a higher level, please consider a “Gold” membership. Your impact will be even greater as you will help us achieve CISV’s mission of a more just and peaceful world by becoming ever more inclusive of families from all economic backgrounds, and able to host longer international camps with CISVers from a larger number of countries.
CISV New York is fully run by volunteers. So what costs does CISV incur?
While our chapter is entirely managed by volunteers at the local level, CISV New York must rent camp facilities and pay for all the products, services, and non-CISV personnel required to ensure successful camps and activities. CISV New York also offers financial aid to families in need.
As a nonprofit, the chapter raises funds through membership fees, program fees, and other fundraising initiatives to maintain high-quality operations and meet CISV’s safety standards. We keep costs down through sensible planning and efficient delivery of our programs.
Why renew or join CISV New York as a member?
- Membership supports all CISV activities and events for young people and their families throughout the year. We do more than just send members to international camps. We have events and activities to help build & bond our chapter. See how you may volunteer to organize events here and check out our calendar of events here.
- Membership helps pay our dues to CISV USA, which in turn keeps our organization in good standing with CISV International. CISV New York is one of more than 200 local CISV chapters around the world, and we are members of this amazing international network thanks to your membership.
- With your membership, CISV New York may widen access to its programs by providing financial aid to more and more families in need.
- Membership supplements the cost of travel & fees for CISV New York volunteers who are required to attend mandatory CISV USA meetings and trainings.
- Membership keeps you up-to-date on what is happening in our chapter. As a member you will receive our mailings and email newsletters.
- Is a Village, Youth Meeting, Step Up, Seminar Camp or a leadership position on the horizon for you or your child this year? Membership makes you eligible for our international programs. Join now and have fewer things to do when it’s time to apply.
- Even if travel plans are not on the agenda for your family this year, we still need your membership. Program fees do not cover all of our expenses. Remember there were many families supporting this chapter when you or your child traveled. We continue to count on the support of our past participants to keep CISV New York strong. Your membership allows other families to have similar opportunities that your family experienced.
- If you believe in Doris Allen’s mission for CISV, “to promote peaceful solutions to worldwide problems through cross-cultural relationships that nurture international understanding”, then you should appreciate the chapter’s commitment to send and host children for years to come.
In our programs page, you can find specific information about the age range, duration and scope of each overnight program.
