Being Race Conscious in CISV: a 2-part Workshop (June 7th & June 8th)

June 8, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Being Race Conscious in CISV is a 2-part workshop led by one of our parent members and expert in the field, Sachi Feris. Sachi has been facilitating workshops called Raising Race Conscious Children that aim to create a supportive environment for parents and educators working to actively challenge racism.

The aim of this workshop is to help our leaders carry the anti-racism message to their programs across the globe this summer and to navigate any issues around racism (and by extension, ableism, sexism, etc.) that may arise. It will also help parents and provide talking points that they can use with their children.

Sachi Feris has a B.A. from Bates College, an M.A. in Sociology and Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and an M.P.A. in Public Policy from Baruch College’s School of Public Affairs. As an educator, she have been dedicated to social justice education and bringing issues of race and equity to our youngest children since 2000. She is the founder of Border Crossers, a nonprofit dedicated to racial equity and has taught Spanish part-time at several NYC elementary schools. Sachi is a White, Jewish woman of Russian, Polish, Lebanese, Syrian, and Cuban descent, and a mother to three children. Her husband is from Argentina, so they speak Spanish as a family.

Please RSVP to receive the Zoom link. Part 1 will be held on June 7th, and Part 2 on June 8th.

Attendees should join both sessions, if possible. However, if you cannot join Part 1 on June 7th, please free to RSVP and attend Part 2 on June 8th.
