CISV NY held its first in-person Info Session since 2019 in Manhattan over the weekend. About 40 families attended the event, almost half of them new to the chapter. After learning about CISV and our program offerings, families had the chance to join small breakout groups to ask questions specific to the programs that their child/children are eligible for.
Amongst all the good and pertinent questions that were asked, we decided to share two of them here since they apply to more than one program:
If a program is being held within the U.S., is it still an international camp?
Yes! All of our programs are international camps, whether they are hosted by a sister chapter in the U.S. or abroad. There are two exceptions: Mosaic is a local camp for 11- and 12-year-olds from the NY Chapter only; and Fortnight is a national program for 16- and 17-year-olds from all over the U.S. At every other program, your child or teenager should expect to represent the United States and the NY Chapter in an international setting. In addition to the NY delegation, participants will be from all around the world.
Are the 11- and 12-year-olds who travel internationally very precocious kids? My child is shy and not very independent. Is the program still a good fit?
Absolutely yes! While some kids who attend our programs might be precocious, others are introspective, sometimes shy, and some are even afraid of flying without mom and dad. Once a delegation is formed, the delegation leader and the delegates meet as often as possible to create bonds and form a “delegation identity.” This helps ease fears. Delegates are there for one another when problems arise, and so is the leader, always!
What programs were announced for the Summer of 2023?
A great slate of programs: two Villages, a Youth Meeting, two Step Up camps, Fortnight, and JC. Seminar Camp applications are also open at the national level. To see where CISV NY delegations will go in the Summer of 2023, check out Invitations here.
